Abby enjoyed her second visit to Norway. To expand on the experiences and fun from last year’s visit, we took a boat from Bergen to Sogndal for a few days.
We took the express boat on the Sognefjord (at 204 km, it’s the longest fjord in the world). We stayed in Sogndal, and rented a car for day trips to the Urnes Stave Church (built in the 12th and 13th centuries), an arm of the Jostedalsbreen (the largest glacier in continental Europe), and a drive along the fjord (where we had to give the right of way to a herd of goats walking from the fjord back towards … well, I’m not sure where they were headed!)
Looking at the map, it is interesting for me to see just how far into Norway we were … close to Modalen (“just” over Stølsheimen and a long hike away!) and looping back towards Lærdal, were we’d taken Abby last summer and I had my first experience with a Norwegian fjord during my visit in 2006.
